Virginia Beach City Public Schools is the largest school system in the Hampton Roads area, serving almost 70,000 students in grades K-12. One of the most common questions for home buyers is: Which schools will my child attend? Virginia Beach City Public Schools is the largest school division in the region, consisting of 56 elementary schools, 14 middle schools, 11 high schools and a number of secondary/post-secondary specialty centers. Among them is an Adult Learning Center, the Renaissance Academy, Advanced Technology Center, and the Technical and Career Education Center.

Academic programs are offered at several schools which enhance our outstanding educational program. There is a Math & Science Academy at Ocean Lakes High School and Linkhorn Bay Elementary. There is a gifted program offered at Old Donation Center, as well as a Foreign Language Partial Immersion Academy at Christopher Farms Elementary. An International Baccalaureate Program for high school students is offered at Princess Anne High School. A Technology Academy is available at Landstown, and there is a Health Science Academy at Bayside, just to name a few.

All schools have a 2:1 student to computer ratio. All high schools, middle schools, and the Advanced Technology Center have distance learning labs, and online courses which are available during the regular school year as well as during summer school.

• All 11 VBCPS high schools were ranked in the top 9 percent nationwide by The Washington Post newspaper.
• Kemps Landing Magnet School was one of only two schools in the state awarded the 2013 Governor’s Award of Educational Excellence.
• John B. Dey, Kingston and Red Mill elementary schools earned 2013 Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Awards.
• Old Donation Center (ODC) earned the 2013 Board of Education Excellence Award. ODC is the only school in South Hampton Roads and one of just 51 schools state wide to earn this award. Bayside, First Colonial, Frank W. Cox, Green Run, Landstown, Ocean Lakes, Princess Anne and Salem high schools were among 34 high schools from across the state awarded the 2012 Claudia Dodson VHSL Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award.
• Last year, the College Board recognized VBCPS as one of only 12 Virginia school divisions on the third Annual AP District Honor Roll. The division earned the honor for increasing the availability of AP courses while also increasing the percentage of students scoring 3 or higher on AP exams.
• The Class of 2013 accepted $32,660,985 in scholarships.
